Planning a Trip to the Wadi Rum Desert in Jordan
When planning a trip to a country like Jordan, you might feel intimidated about how to get around.
We booked a rental car through Discover Cars and picked it up at the Amman airport. The roads in Jordan are well-kept and it’s very easy to navigate to Jordan’s tourist sites.
The drive from Amman to the Wadi Rum Visitor Center is approximately 4 hours. We broke up the drive by first heading to the Dead Sea (1 hour), then Petra (3 hours), and finally Wadi Rum (1.75 hours).
Best Time For Luxury Camping in Jordan Wadi Rum Desert
Spring and fall are ideal times to visit the Wadi Rum desert for the best weather. That said, you can visit year round.
- March to May – Generally you can expect warm days. In the earlier part of spring, wind and rain (and snow) are possible but not a big issue. The evenings are comfortable. It’s nice to have a tent with temperature control to adjust for the climate.
- June and August – This is the hottest time to visit and air conditioning in your tent is a necessity.
- September to November – We went in October and it was perfect. You need a light jacket for the evening but it’s very comfortable and the weather is beautiful.
- November to February – It’s very cold during the winter but you will definitely save on hotel rates. Make sure your tent has a heater and bring warm clothes.

Wadi Rum Bubble Luxotel (Most Romantic Luxury Camping in Jordan for Couples)
Right next-door to the place we stayed is the Wadi Rum Bubble Luxotel (9.0). This is high end Wadi Rum Glamping taken up a notch. Each bubble suite includes a bedroom, a separate living room, a private bathroom and a patio with jacuzzi.
In some Wadi Rum desert camps, tents are closely put together, which makes it challenging to get some well-needed privacy. Here that is not an issue since the tents are spread out.
A highlight of the bedroom is its clear roof that allows the guests to do late-night stargazing right from the bed while the sides of the tent are covered for complete privacy.
Breakfast and dinner are included too, so you don’t have to worry about getting hungry.
What guests like most: beautiful surroundings, fun tours available • Consideration: limited vegetarian options
Wadi Rum UFO Luxotel (Next Best Wadi Rum Bubble Hotel if the Hotel Above is Booked)
The Wadi Rum Bubble Hotel where we stayed, the Wadi Rum UFO Luxotel (9.0) was a terrific experience. We highly recommend the hotel and the staff.
The hotel has a driver that meets you at a local gas station where they pick you up and you can leave your car. Our driver looked quite young but was very skilled in his dusty 4×4!
The 15 minute trip though incredible desert surroundings to the property, got us really excited about the experience we were about to have.
The reception area includes a lobby, dining area and bar. They have a speedy check in and tell you about various activities that are offered. There’s no hard sell and you definitely want to plan something. We signed up for the sunrise tour – so great!!
You are then taken via golf cart to your private bubble tent, which has a comfy king sized bed, a seating area, full bathroom and even a terrace. The room is equipped with air conditioning, wifi, and outlets where you can charge electronics.
There’s a great view of the desert and other bubbles. It definitely looks like you are living in an upscale Martian colony.
