The Evolistas are always on the lookout for anything that makes us feel good and look great. We know that life is about a lot more than that, but let’s face it, aging well is important. When it comes to our faces, there’s nothing worse than seeing a new wrinkle or a droopy jowl. Ugh!! We’ve been hearing a lot about Radio Frequency skin tightening, so I decided to be the guinea pig and give it a try.
What is Radio Frequency?
It is a treatment that uses radio frequency waves to heat the subdermal layers of the skin. The heat causes the skin to tighten by creating new collagen fibers. You can treat wrinkles, jowls, loose skin, double chin, cellulite, loose stomach skin from pregnancy or weight loss, and there’s even a vaginal treatment. There are many different machines that utilize Radio Frequency waves so you may hear different names like Themi or Thermage, among others. I tried ThermiSmooth Body on my face.
ThermiSmooth Radio Frequency
My main goal was to tighten the skin that is sagging on the lower half of my face. He told me about two options. ThermiTight and ThermiSmooth. ThermiTight, a minimally invasive procedure, tightens the jawline. A small probe is inserted through a needle directly into the lower layers of the skin. It can cause bruising and I wasn’t excited about doing anything invasive. My other option, ThermiSmooth Body is the Radio Frequency treatment used for larger areas of the body. It is an electrode that glides across your skin in a circular motion and heats the skin to a specific temperature. It’s like a gentle, warm facial massage.
The ThermiSmooth Body Procedure
The doctor put a generous amount of coconut oil on my skin. He then used the electrode to do one side of my face from my cheekbone down to my neck and repeated the process on the other side. It took 15 minutes per side. My skin was flushed when I was done. It was a very uneventful and pleasant. In fact, I went through emails while it was being done. There was no downtime. I walked right out of the office into the world without worrying that I looked strange.
ThermiSmooth Body requires 3-6 treatments spaced 10 days to 3 weeks apart. Then it requires maintenance every 1-2 months. I did two treatments, 10 days apart. The doctor said it would take 3-4 days to see results and sure enough, there was a noticeable difference right on schedule. If the cost was low (like the price of a facial), I definitely think it’s worth it. Unfortunately the cost was $400 per treatment and that is just too high for something that is not more permanent.
